FRIGIDAIRE / DRYER
E61— Heating Element / Heater Relay Fault
01 — What it means
The control board detected that the heating element is not drawing current when commanded. On electric dryers this usually means the heating element itself; on gas dryers it points to the igniter or gas valve coil circuit.
02 — Most common causes
- A burned-out heating element (electric models, 7-to-10-year wear part)
- A failed high-limit thermostat disabling the heat circuit for safety
- A worn igniter (gas models) — glows but does not reach ignition temperature
03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)
- 1Run a timed-dry cycle and feel the dryer drum after 5 minutes — it should feel warm.
- 2Check the vent termination outside the house for hot exhaust airflow during the cycle.
- 3If no heat is reaching the drum, stop the cycle and unplug the dryer (electric) or close the gas shutoff (gas).
- 4Do not attempt to inspect the heating element or gas valve — both involve 240V or live gas connections.
