  • A single heavy item (comforter, bath mat, work jeans) pressed against one side of the drum

The direct drive motor rotor is not turning freely. The control board detects the current draw is abnormal and halts the cycle to protect the motor. On Direct Drive machines this often points to the rotor position sensor (Hall sensor) rather than the motor itself.

02 — Most common causes

  • A foreign object (coin, bra underwire, sock) jammed between the drum and outer tub
  • A failed Hall sensor on the back of the motor — a known wear item on LG Direct Drive motors
  • A seized rotor bolt or rusted rotor on washers in humid Florida garages

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Unplug the washer and remove any clothing from the drum.
  2. 2With the washer unplugged, gently rock the drum back and forth with one hand — it should move freely with only slight resistance.
  3. 3If you hear grinding or scraping, stop and call us; continued rotation with a foreign object trapped can damage the outer tub and motor.

  • A kinked or clogged drain hose behind the washer
  • A failed drain pump motor — usually after 7 to 10 years

IE / 1E— Water Inlet Error

01 — What it means

The washer did not receive enough water during the fill cycle. LG uses IE on most models and 1E on some newer front-loaders, but the diagnosis is the same.

  • Partially closed hot or cold supply valves at the wall
  • Clogged inlet screens on the washer's fill hose connections
  • A failed water inlet valve solenoid on the washer itself

03 — Check it yourself (safe steps)

  1. 1Verify both supply valves at the wall are fully open.
  2. 2Turn the valves off and disconnect the fill hoses from the back of the washer.
  3. 3Remove the small mesh filter screens with needle-nose pliers and clean them under running water.
  4. 4Reinstall the screens, reconnect hoses hand-tight, turn valves back on, and test.

FE / FE Error— Water Overflow

01 — What it means

The water level sensor reported too much water in the tub. The washer immediately opens the drain pump to prevent a flood. FE stops the cycle until the fault is cleared.

  • A stuck-open water inlet valve (continuing to fill after the board commands it to stop)
  • A clogged or kinked pressure sensor hose feeding the water level switch
  • A failed pressure sensor returning the wrong water level reading

  • Laundry caught in the door seal preventing full closure
  • A worn door lock assembly (3 to 5 years on heavily used washers)
